hey y'all! Shaunna here. today i'm going to show off one of my projects using the new "Oh Penelope" kit and show you how to take a sketch and make it your own. it's really easy to scale the sketch to fit your needs and rearrange things to coordinate with your page. i often use sketches as a basis or inspiration for my projects - many times i draw my own out before i start on my project, and sometimes i use PageMaps or other sketch sites. (shameless plug: i am a guest designer for PageMaps this month! you can go check out my layout on their site ;) )
here is the sketch i started with, from PageMaps May 2011 collection:

and here is the page i ended up with:
!!! (ps, please don't mind the unfinished journaling... i know what i want to say but after trying several options i can't decide what i want to use to say it! my handwriting doesn't appeal to me on this page... i am going to try to bribe my mother-in-law out of her typewriter one of these days, and maybe i'll use that!)
i really wanted to make a 12x12 page, so i adjusted the dimensions of the original 8.5 x 11. i kept a lot of the same elements; i really liked the idea of a subtle background pattern surrounded by a solid, and i definitely wanted to incorporate the My Mind's Eye plaid paper, so the page started there and evolved. i added a few more layers here and there to finish out the design, and kept the consistency of the heart embellishments from the original sketch as well.
there are so many ways you can take a sketch and make it your own! i hope to be able to continue to inspire you to use sketches throughout the month of February, and am making (almost) all of my projects for this month's kit based on sketches (in honor of my PageMaps stint!) so check back on Thursdays for more sketch inspo from me :)
if you haven't stopped by the Scrapbooking Supplies R Us store to pick up "Oh Penelope" yet, you better get over there before they are all gone! this kit is definitely worth every single bit and i am really pleased with how all the different elements are mixing so far! you will definitely LOVE this kit :)
don't forget to check back tomorrow for our February Card challenge!! have a scrap-tastic Thursday!
peace, love and stickers -
Shaunna :)
